Sony announces PlayStation 5 Digital Edition without disk drive
Sony had one big surprise that sank in the last minute of its latest PlayStation 5 revelation. The only digital version of the next line is the console.
Simply called the PS5 Digital Edition, this hardware version does not have an optical drive, as you can see in Sony’s live stream. There is a noticeable thinness compared to the digital version and the absence of a visible disk, where the disk is located on the standard model.
There seems to be another button on the front of the digital version, which we assume is because the standard has a power button and a disc button to push it out. The digital version will only need a power button if those functions are really what these two design details are. We don’t know until we see a deeper video that shows the panel in the real world.
Sony has not announced a pricing for any of the devices, according to Microsoft’s decision not to announce the price of its competitor Xbox Series X, when it revealed the device earlier this year. So we still don’t know if there will be a significant price difference between the two. When Microsoft released only the Xbox One S digitally last year, it was $ 50 cheaper than the standard model.
The lack of a disc can simply be for customers who want a more aesthetically pleasing device and know for sure that they are buying all of their games digitally. But just because you don’t have a disk drive means that you won’t be able to use the device as a Blu-ray player, because there will be a significant difference in meaning. We’ll have to wait and see at the end of this year, when Sony announces the official price of the PS5.
“During the launch of the PS5, we will offer two options: a PlayStation 5 panel with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc and a PlayStation 5 digital version without a disc. The PS5 gaming experience will be the same, so the choice is yours. Although there are some differences in the look of each model, for the overall layout, we wanted to provide a knife that is bold, stunning and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation. ” reads Sony’s blog post, which summarizes today’s announcements.
Update ET on June 11 at 6:41 p.m. The announcement of the resumption of the PS5 event was supplemented by information from Sony’s blog post.
