5 best ways to remember things when you study

Oh, we remember how busy the final week was! Whether you’re in high school or nearing the end of your college career, most people will agree that any type of exam will shake the nerves of the most confident and willing student.

The worst thing some students will do is prepare themselves for the multiple choice exam when they are studying for the essay exam. Knowing and studying the format of the exam can be really key in preparing for the exam.

Likewise, there are many unique ways to memorize content when you study! Following a few simple tips can make the test a little easier and at the same time make your life less stressful.

Before we begin, our biggest tip for the final week is to study a week early!

This prevents any stress, negative mindset, fatigue, etc. from happening knowing that you have enough time to study.

1. Don’t study things you already know.

The biggest mistake we see when students start studying for their final exam is to review the course information they already know such as the topics covered in previous exams 1 and 2. I hope you will agree with me that there is a lot more to it. Information that needs to be covered in each of your courses … Don’t waste your time and effort going to the basic understanding or concepts that you should have already learned as general knowledge.

Sit in a quiet area outside the classroom and at the table with your notes. Next highlight all the chapters you don’t understand. This is the initial step of the study … Through this, you will be able to focus your time on and prioritize the areas you need to review.
Be sure to take a look at the textbook (chapters test cover) or PowerPoint slides provided in your syllabus. By doing so, you will be able to gain an accurate understanding of which sections you need to attack the most.

Evaluate the material at this time and compare it with the study guide or exam review given to you by your professor while trying to cover the topics not covered in the exam review.

2. Be active and eat.

Avoid processed and junk food such as fast food restaurants, salty snacks or even soda.

Pasta, sandwiches, milk, vegetables and fruits are wonderful sources of carbohydrates and should really be included in the diet when studying for exams. Especially the next night and even in the morning. Never study on an empty stomach, it is impossible to concentrate when your stomach keeps rumbling on you! The mind then focuses on the desire for food and not on learning.

It is also important that you get regular sleep. Brain fatigue during the exam will quickly reduce your exam performance, although stretching all night is fine and very common, make sure you have a boundary or a 30 minute nap. Don’t drink too much energetic drinks, sugar can crash your body the next day, limit yourself to two maximum drinks, if not less.

It’s also smart to pump and move the body before your test. Take a quick walk. Studies have shown that exercise allows blood to flow, allowing your body to make an adrenaline rush while also increasing the level of endorphins (in your body). 3. Know the purpose:

Why am I studying this? While studying we often come across a common feature called “information overload” … which is the reason why it usually becomes difficult to remember the content later. Make sure you know the purpose of why you study, what motivates you to move forward?

– Know a specific concept or idea

– To better yourself in a certain field

– To find out why someone did a special job

– To answer assigned academic study questions

Having a purpose in your mind when you study can help you focus only on relevant information and remember it better.

There is a virtually infinite amount of reasons why you are studying something, make sure you understand what is yours.

4. Study before bed and immediately after getting out of bed

The most ideal time to review or learn something is to wake up before and immediately after going to bed. Throughout the day the mind is filled with a lot of useless information and it keeps trying to filter out the information that is useful and memorable and what is not.

Be sure not to brush your teeth in the morning. Strange, but true studies show that when you brush your teeth, you tell your brain that you are ready to go. With this, your brain starts to feel hurried when you try to study, but in the end, you are just skimming and trying to cram all the information together.

This makes it easier for you to forget things. Imagine if you were asked what you struggled with yesterday and what you did after a long day, would you be able to answer? Yes, that’s a lot. Your mind is refreshed before going to bed and after getting out of bed and it secretes some chemicals that can help make your memory more solid.

5. Remember what you learned:

Try a 15-minute repetition of what you learned. If you adopt some of these methods, you will be amazed at how much you remember and your confidence in your ability to remember will also increase. This improves the whole process and you will put more effort into getting out of bed the next day and working again.
