Facebook Announces Metaverse Plans Redbrick Sci & Tech

Facebook has announced that over the next five years, they will hire 10,000 workers from the European Union to develop a “metaverse.”

In a press release, the company described the meta-universe as “a new phase of interconnected virtual experiences using technologies such as virtual and augmented reality.” He also explained that the metacosm will not be owned and managed by any company, and its key feature will be its “openness and compatibility”.

Metauniverse will not own or manage any company

Metaverse is essentially a virtual space where you can create and explore with other people who are not in the same physical space as you. Facebook explains that you can “hang out with friends, work, play, study, shop, create, etc.” – all in the meta universe. The technology giant also stressed that this development is not about spending more time online, but about making the time you spend online “more meaningful.”

However, the metaverse will not appear immediately, as users will have to wait ten to fifteen years for the product to be “fully implemented.” Facebook has promised to build the metaworld “responsibly,” and the key areas in which the company says it works closely with others to reduce risks are: economic opportunity, privacy, security and integrity, equity and inclusion.

A two-year, $ 50 million investment in programs and external research called the XR Program and Research Foundation will also be launched to help create a metacosm. Some of the first partners are the Organization of American States, Africa No Filter, Electric South, Imisi3D and Women in Immersive Tech.
