Huskies swept the Lakers in another 3-0 win

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – No. 19 Michigan Tech earned a CCHA sweep at Lake Superior State after a 3-0 shutdown for the second game in a row on Saturday. Tech scored three power-play goals in the second half of the game and Blake Pietila missed his fifth game with 11 saves.

“We made a small change to the power play per second, and then we scored in our last three strong games,” said technical coach Joe Shawhan. Said. “That was the difference in the game. It was a big win and a big weekend.”

Tech had 23 shots on goal over the first two periods. The Huskies finally broke the seal in the second period 12:43 in the fourth-strong game of the game when Logan Pietila took a rebound after a shot from Brian Halonen. This was Pietila’s eighth game of the season, and Justin Misiak also assisted in the game.

Eric Gotz moved up to third place with a powerful 6:44 goal. Trenton Bliss found him very open and chose the top corner instead of the blocker in the first game of the season and the ninth game of his career. Colin Swoyer also helped.

Alec Broetzman made it 3-0 with a one-shot in the slot of Arvid Caderoth and Trenton Bliss. For Broetzman, it was his third power-play goal of the season and 17th of his career.

Technical result LSSU 29-11. Tristan Ashbrook hit the pole in the first period and Tommy Parrottino had a chance in the second half, driven by Ethan Langenegger.

Pietila made one save and five saves in each of the first two halves to score his eighth career goal. He hasn’t let LSSU score against him for 180 minutes.

Tech was 3v6 in power play and 3v3 in penalty kick, progressing to 12-8-1 overall and 9-5 in CCHA.

Richard Novak (1984-89) played a record while Justin Misiak played for Michigan Tech in the 165th game of his career. Misiak had three points over the weekend with one goal and two assists.

Tech is playing in Northern Michigan next weekend. Huskies and Wildcats will meet on Friday at 6:37 PM in Marquette and Saturday at 6:07 PM in Houghton. General admission tickets for Saturday’s match are on sale and both competitions will be broadcast on TV6.
