One of the readers of my previous article said, “Although I don’t know everything, I know what I know.” do know everything.
Legal assistants are details of the legal profession. We realize the lawyer’s vision of his solution to the client’s problem. We’re done.
Many lawyers only understand their role in the process, e.g. providing legal advice to the client, representing the client in court and formulating documentation to best represent the client, etc .; however, they do not always understand the details of the process, such as proper documentation formatting / dissemination, which documentation would be most effective to serve the client’s needs, and so on.
The downside of this equation is the client’s misunderstanding of the role of legal assistant in his case. Clients often consider us obstacles only by questioning us, our knowledge and methods – sometimes they even argue with us. We take into account that you are passionate about your case and want it done the way you want it to; however, what you may consider a simple line from point A to point B actually requires detours through A (1), A (2), A (3), and so on.
You have commissioned a lawyer you have hired to represent you to the best of your ability. The lawyer commissioned the legal assistants they hired to help them achieve their ultimate goals. Legal assistants are constantly improving their bureaucracy skills, and although methods may vary from office to office, we all know what we do … at least most of the time.
