LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 23 Texas Tech women’s golf program battled cold and windy conditions in Dallas on Monday to build a 12-stroke lead at the Trinity Forest Invitational. Play was halted late in the second round due to darkness.

The Red Raiders were 2-under-par as a team on their second round when the horn sounded, a steady improvement on their card from earlier in the day. Gala Dumez and Amy Taylor were both already in the clubhouse at 2-over 74 and 3-over 75 when play was halted, while Chiara Horder and Cecilie Nielsen both had a hole remaining with Libby Fleming still needing to complete four of her own.

Horder needs only a par at the par-5 2nd when play resumes Tuesday to wrap an impressive 5-under, bogey-free card that pushed her into a tie for third overall. Horder, who chipped in a 7-over card to start the event, is four strokes back of tournament leaders Alison Gastelum of New Mexico State and Lovisa Gunnar of Tulsa.

Dumez is only two strokes back of Horder in a tie for sixth place overall as the sophomore signed for a pair of 2-over rounds. Taylor is currently in a tie for 23rd overall at 9-over for the tournament as she turned in a 6-over round to start the event as she did Cecilie Nielsenwho is 12-over and in a tie for 38th.

Fleming, like Horder, is currently under-par during every second round as she rebounded from a 12-over start to sit at 2-under with four holes still remaining. The recovery helped the freshman move into a tie for 26th individually to round out the lineup at 10-over alongside Anna Dongwho is competing this week as an individual. Kylee Loewe is also participating as an individual, finishing a combined 14-over for the two rounds.

As a team, Texas Tech combined for a 21-over 309 opening round that placed the Red Raiders in second place until their drastic improvement later in the day. New Mexico is currently in second place on the leaderboard at 31-over followed by Tulsa at 32-over, South Florida at 33-over and both UNLV and Texas State at 34-over.

The Red Raiders will resume the second round at 8 am Tuesday morning followed by the third and final round. Live results will be available throughout the day at
