The women’s team moved up one spot to No. 5, while the men’s program slide three spots to No. 7.
Tech spent the weekend in Waco, Texas as part of the Michael Johnson Invitational Friday and Saturday, battling through very windy conditions. One day one, the Red Raiders recorded a trio of first place outings which included a pair in the long jump by Ruth Usoro and Chris Welch. Usoro’s fifth attempt of 6.59m (21-7.50) (5.2w) stood as the winner as Welch leaped 7.67m (25-2) (8.3w) on his third jump.
Saturday, the team of Virginia Kerley, Kiah Dubarry-Gay, Aneesa Scott and Rosemary Chukwuma clocked in a time of 43.22 in the 4×100. They defeated the pro team of Hurdle Mechanic (43.25) and in the process, recorded the third fastest time in Tech history.
The Red Raiders return back to action this weekend at home for the Corky/Crofoot Open and to celebrate its departing seniors on Saturday. It’s the final regular season meet of the year.
