The first official outdoor US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings are set to come out next Monday, Mar. 28.
Indoors to Outdoors
Several Red Raiders will be making their outdoor debut since the NCAA Indoor Championships took place a few weeks ago. Jacob Shelton – the Big 12 60 and 200 champion – is penciled in for the 100 and 4×100 relay team. Meanwhile, Moad Zahafi is set for the 800 race. Both Red Raiders garnered First Team All-American honors at the indoor meet. Shelton in the 200 and Zahafi in the 800. Joining them on the First Team side is Gabe Oladipo who placed third in the weight throw. He will go in the shot put and discus.
Over on the women’s side Monae’ Nichols Finished runner-up at indoors in the long jump and is slated to go back at it this weekend. Rosemary Chukwuma has her eyes set on the SMR and 4×100, while Demisha Roswell will focus on the 100m hurdles and the 4×100. Sydney Sapp will compete in the ‘A’ high jump as Chloe Wall is back to pole vaulting outdoors. Seasons Usualwho finished third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last season, will go in the discus ‘A’ section.
Texas Tech opened its outdoor campaign at the Wes Kittley Invitational hosted by ACU. One of the highlights of the meet included Aneesa Scott etching a time of 23.07 in the 200. It was a new personal best for her and in the process, became the No. 1 time in the NCAA. Malik Metivier registered a time of 49.85 in the 400 hurdles as that mark put him third in the country. Scott is set for two relay teams this weekend, while Metivier goes in the 400 hurdles.
Wood threw the discus and hammer for the first time in his young collegiate career last weekend. His best discus toss went 50.47m (165-7). His hammer toss registered at 52.83m (173-4). Meanwhile, Cunningham made their 2022 season debut. She competed in the high jump, leaping over the bar at 1.62m (5-3.75).
Texas Tech is back in action at home hosting the Masked Rider Open April 1-2.
