What are the key differences between videography and cinema?

“Are you a cameraman or a cameraman?” This is a question that is asked many times. It is difficult to distinguish between them. Terms are often used interchangeably. This can be very frustrating for many people who want to hire a professional and simply want to have quality production at the end of the day.

Definition of cinematography and video

Cinematography is defined as the science and art behind film photography. Therefore, cinematographers are mostly in charge of film production. They may also be referred to as a cameraman on major film and television productions. These are individuals who are in charge of the camera and lighting staff on the lungs during production. They are responsible for bringing the director’s vision to life. They do this by making artistic and technical decisions about which lens to use, the level of exposure, the types of filters, the composition, the lighting conditions, what production lights to use, color grading, and much more for production.

These two professions can be distinguished in many ways. One of the easiest ways to distinguish them is to define the size of the crew and the way two different professionals work.

Videographers often work solo or with small, five or fewer teams. They are associated with small productions such as small ads, training videos, company videos, wedding videos and much more. Because they often work solo, they are known to handle all elements of production, including lighting, sound and editing. They are skilled in various aspects of production. You can even go so far as to call them a “one man show.”

Why is there a confusion between videography and cinema?

The difference between them is quite clear. However, the terms are often used interchangeably. This is partly due to technological progress. The introduction of DSLR camcorders has allowed small teams or individuals to perform the same quality of work that once required larger teams. A modern cameraman can create a film effect in his videos, so he can easily be confused by using a large crew to achieve these results.

Videography or cinematography

Over the years, videography he has an evil representative. This has caused many societies and individuals to be categorized.

One of the main factors that contributed to the poor representation was the connection of cameramen with weddings. Many people believe that these professionals should be hired exclusively to record weddings and other similar social gatherings. Therefore, it is not worth taking them seriously or hiring them for other types of work. To get rid of this negative connotation, these professionals renamed themselves cameramen.

The fact is that both professions have their specialties and applications.

Many professionals who claim to be cameramen are, in fact, individuals who use DSLR technology to provide this cinematic effect. They may claim to be art, but they are not really different from other professionals in the business.
