Why should men learn ballroom dancing?

Introduction

You read this because you are a man who thinks about ballroom dancing or a woman who is trying to figure out how a man can learn ballroom dancing. However, the article is about why men should learn ballroom dancing.

There are 4 main reasons why a man should learn ballroom. They are style and modernity, a challenge, something to learn and being more human. I’ll talk about this one first.

Style and modernity

Who is perhaps the most stylish and modern man and still the most man? By the way, I will let you consider the fictional characters in contemplating this question. You can give some answers, but I remember James Bond. If James Bond really couldn’t dance, would you think he would be such an attractive character?

Even if you haven’t thought about James Bond, think about what makes a man attractive. Make a list in your head. Knowing how to dance socially with a woman will surely fit that list. You can make excuses as to why it shouldn’t be, but deep down, you know it’s there.

I’ll talk later about why it is on this list. However, I can now use one observation as to why you think so.

Social dance is one of the greatest cultural contributions of the West to the world. When I lived in China, I saw that social dance had a similar perception to Western martial arts. It was like a stereotype of the heights of Western culture. A friend of mine in Sri Lanka noted how dancing was only a way of worshiping God until social dance was introduced. Social dance brought a whole new vision to dance. A very western view. When you learn ballroom dancing, you automatically learn one of the most refined aspects of a culture. You can’t help but get a little complicated when you do this.

And here we are talking about a male James Bond / Ret Butler type innovation.

A challenge

What kind of man gets out of a challenge?

Ballroom dancing really presents a kind of challenge that gives a man a chance to become a man.

It is not just a physical challenge that can be faced by increasing strength or speed. You have to master the movement. You have to face the biggest fear a man has: a stupid look. One reason many men argue that they do not want to learn to dance or that no man wants a ballroom is because they are afraid that they will look stupid if they try.

The truth is, a man doesn’t look good when he first tries to dance. He would later worry about how he would look when he first danced socially. Do you really think you should spend your life worrying about what others think? It is a great challenge for any human being to work towards the goal of sufficient proficiency with such a negative belief. Ballroom dancing provides a great way to handle such a challenge.

When you take on the ballroom dancing challenge, you will realize that you have truly accepted the challenge that has made you a better person.

Something to learn and keep the brain active

Life can be very boring when you are not learning something new. As you begin to learn partner dance, a whole new world will open up for you. There is history, culture, physiology, music, steps, behaviors and much more.

You cannot master this in a short time. Instead, as you learn more, you will find that there is much more to learn again. This is part of the challenge I mentioned earlier. Social dancing will always give you something to work on.

The best thing here is that you can decide if you want to dance a specific dance better, learn a new dance or learn more movements for one dance. Whether it’s the depth of learning or the breadth of learning, social dance always has something to offer you.

Not only can this keep your brain in good health, but dancing can also cause you to think while dancing.

You need to focus on the woman dancing with her, and then you will be able to lead her, but you will also want to navigate the dance floor so as not to clash with others. You should also do this while staying on time. You need to focus on what you see, hear and feel. Then you have to guess what to do next from these stimuli as well.

It is this high cognitive role of dance that makes social dancing the best way to prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Research has shown that reading social dances (twice as good) and crossword puzzles (about 1.5 times better) is better at preventing dementia. If you want (and you should) keep your brain in good condition, then social dancing is for you.

Being more human

You may think that partner dance is a bit old fashioned. Well, when it comes to gender equality, it certainly is. In everyday life you will never be like that, but in ballroom dancing a man is a leader. As he guides her around the dance floor, he grabs the dancing woman and protects her. He will approach her with confidence, then she will feel safe and secure. He will be physically strong, but offer a gentle hug so she can lose joy in the dance. The way you see it portrayed on TV is great.

You will be able to offer it to a woman.

As one tango instructor I know once said, we do not get into such habits in everyday life. So dance gives us the opportunity to explore the emotions of being like this. By engaging in ballroom dancing, a man will have the opportunity to exercise more of his masculine side so that he can feel more comfortable in everyday life.

This alone helps to make a man more confident and attractive to women. However, being able to dance will make women more attractive. Moreover, social dancing increases the level of intimate physical contact you have with a number of women. This also enhances your confidence in women and thus increases your attractiveness.

This confidence is simply based on the confidence that comes from accepting the challenge of the dance and the confidence that comes from having the extra complexity that comes with knowing how to dance. Remember James Bond and Ret Butler?

Summary

So if you are looking for reasons why a man should learn to dance, there are:

  • Complexity
  • A challenge
  • Keeping the brain healthy
  • Be more faithful as a human being

If you definitely don’t like ballroom dancing it is an easy option. You accept it because it is a serious challenge and the effort pays off. You will have to face it, but that is why you do it.
